One thing I’d like to improve on is being present. In whatever I’m doing during the day, while I am focused for part of it, I frequently find my mind wanders. Sometimes if I’m stressed, I’m hardly present at all, and my thoughts are focused on whatever is causing me to feel anxious or worked up. Asking myself where I am and what I am doing at that exact moment in time I have found helps bring me back to the present. It’s a simple answer – I’m sitting on the couch in my house, I’m typing on my laptop – but it helps focus my racing thoughts (at least for the moment!)

My mindfulness methods

In understanding mindfulness, I’ve come to realize a lot of it centres around being kind with yourself, forgiving yourself, and taking time out of the day to be present and do something for you. Fitness and exercise are a huge part of my life, and for me, taking the time to go to not even just a yoga class is an intentional and self-care act (although yoga challenges me on new levels and that is also a goal!).
